Statement: Santosh is a student of class VIII at Sulochanadevi Singhania Academy. He might be a member of the Karate Club.
Assumptions:
I. All members of Sulochanadevi Singhania Academy are members of the Karate Club.

The statement merely assumes that there are some members of class VIII of the academy who are members of the Karate Club. Assumption I uses the adjective "all", which is definitely not true; II is speculative - there is no mention of any compulsion.

Q2. In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Statement: The concession in rail fares for journeying to hill stations has been cancelled because it is not needed by people who can spend their holidays there.
Assumptions:
I. Railways should give concession only to the needy.
II. Railways should not encourage people to spend their holidays at hill stations.
Answer : Option A

There is no evidence in the statement to suggest that privatisation will help in the reduction of infant deaths. Hence, only Action II follows.

Q5. Directions: Below in each question are given two statements (A) and (B). These statements may be either independent causes or may be effects of independent causes or a common cause. One of these statements may be the effect of the other statement. Read both the statements and decide which of the following answer choice correctly depicts the relationship between these two statements

A. There has been sharp decline in sales of passenger cars during the last few months.
B. Many finance companies have announced attractive schemes of car loans with moderate interest rate
Answer : Option A
Explaination / Solution:

Had the sale of cars been high or usual, there is no reason for the finance companies to come up with schemes with modern interest rates because anyway people would be purchasing the cars. Schemes for modern interest rates would have been introduced solely for the purpose of luring people to purchase them and make a hike in the sales. Hence, statement A is the cause and B is the effect.

Which of the following contradicts the above finding ?
Answer : Option B
Explaination / Solution:

The statement give against option (2) contradicts the finding. Hence, option B is correct.

Q7. Among P, Q, R, S & T, sitting in a straight line, facing North, who sits exactly in the middle of the line?
I. P sits third to the left of S. T is an immediate neighbor of P as well as R.
II. T sits second to the left of S. Q is not an immediate neighbor of either T or S.
Answer : Option E
Explaination / Solution:

As per statement I or Statement II alone, position of middle person cannot be determined as possibility cases can be formed. Data in both statements is required to answer the question.

Q8. Among five friends, A, B, C, D, and E, sitting around a circular table, facing the center, who sits to the immediate right of A?
I. E sits third to the right of D. A is not an immediate neighbor of D.
II. C sits second to the left of B. A is not an immediate neighbor of C.
Answer : Option A
Explaination / Solution:

By data of Statement I alone position of A’s neighbors can be determined. Hence option A is correct.

Q9. Who among P, Q, R, S and T is the tallest?
I. P is taller than S and T but shorter than R. Q is taller than S.
II. T is taller than S. P is not the tallest.
Answer : Option D
Explaination / Solution:

As per Statement I, R>P>S, T & Q>S (Position of Q cannot be determined). As per Statement II, T>S, So, Data in both statements together is not sufficient to answer the questions.

I. There is only one letter between A and T. E is to the left of A.
II. The word does not begin with T. There is only one letter between E and S. T is not an immediate neighbor of E.
Answer : Option E
Explaination / Solution:

Data in both statements together is required to answer the question. As per statement I, 3 cases are possible, EAST, ETSA, STEA. Data of information is also required to get single answer.
